This training will provide an overview of Crime Victims Council services and program outcomes, including data on clients served and teen-focused outreach efforts, to help participants better understand the local landscape of victimization. Attendees will explore the foundations of trauma and systems trauma, including institutional betrayal, distrust of systems, and the ripple effects on family units, all while learning how intersectionality, identity, and generational experiences influence a survivor’s healing process. The session will also review the wide range of trauma responses, emphasizing triggers, and the ongoing need to dispel myths about the “perfect victim.” Building from this foundation, the training will outline the principles of trauma-informed practice, including safety, transparency, collaboration, empowerment, and culturally responsive care. Case studies will help participants apply these concepts to real-world prosecution and advocacy scenarios. The session will close with a discussion on vicarious trauma and burnout, offering practical self-care strategies and workplace approaches to support sustainability for legal and advocacy professionals.
