8:30 AM – 10:00 AM  “INTRODUCTION TO THE ATTORNEY DISCIPLINARY PROCESS AND CURRENT ISSUES” 

Speaker:  Thomas J. Farrell, Chief Disciplinary Counsel, Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of PA

This will be a discussion of how the Office of Disciplinary Counsel works.  This incudes a description of how complaints against attorneys originate, how the office receives and investigates complaints, and how we prosecute cases.  I’ll discuss the different routes which private and public discipline take as well as missteps attorneys make when under investigation which can aggravate their situation.  Finally, I’ll discuss some of the more common disciplinary issues we see.  Finally, I’ll discuss initiative ODC and the Board have undertake to make the system more effective, more transparent to the public and to lawyers, and to some extent, more helpful to lawyers.

This will be the first and what we hope to be a series of advocacy programs addressing trial skills and trial practice.  This afternoon the presenters will discuss storytelling, witness preparation, and direct examination skills such that the client and your witnesses tell the story and present the theory and these of you case.
